Our curriculum is based on the CFPC “Triple C” Curriculum model (Comprehensive education and patient care, Continuity of education and patient care, Centred in family medicine), which helps prepare you to practise family medicine anywhere.
Comprehensive:
You will train in the full scope of family medicine: office and community-based care, inpatient care, emergency medicine, chronic care, and obstetrics, and the psychosocial aspects of medicine that affect all age groups. Clinical and academic sessions use evidence-based medicine.
Learning objectives are structured around nine Domains of Clinical Care (e.g., care of the elderly, care of children and adolescents) that help develop your competence in each of these areas. Regular reviews of the domains across all sites and experiences allow for early adoption of training courses and technology to prepare you to practise with the evolving changes in society.
Continuity:
You will follow the same patients in your family medicine clinics, hospitals, and long-term-care facilities. You will have a designated primary preceptor(s) during each core family medicine clinical experience, as well as an academic advisor assigned for the duration of your residency. Specialty experiences throughout your two years build competence measured by Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) through regular assessment.
Centred:
You are always learning through the lens of family medicine. Strong family medicine leadership throughout Queen’s Health Sciences values primary care. This allows you to work in multiple clinical settings across our four sites with other family physicians and specialist colleagues who are enthusiastic about family medicine learners.
