Team Visiting Falkland Islands Renews Program Relationships

Dr. Michael Green, Dr. Geoff Hodgetts, Dr. Brent Wolfrom and Allen McAvoy, Strategic Relations Manager, visited the Falkland Islands in February 2018. Recognizing faculty changes since the 2015 launch of the department’s Falkland Islands-Queen’s Family Medicine rotation, the visit provided an opportunity to oversee the transition of program management. During the visit, the team met with government and hospital staff to discuss the program, renew links, and consider potential expansions between Queen’s and the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the Falklands Islands.

The Queen’s Gazette published an article about the program, Queen’s Family Medicine Residents Participate in Unique Falkland Islands Rotation, featuring photos Allen took during their visit. The Gazette article was one piece of the British High Commission’s larger media strategy to profile Queen’s relationship with the Falkland Islands. It engaged a freelance journalist to join the Queen's team in the Falklands and to write a variety of articles intended for local, national and international audiences. (Posted February 2018)
