Welcome to my first blog of 2023. A new year brings new challenges but also new potential for opportunity.

With the holiday season upon us once again, I want to take a moment to thank all of our faculty, staff, and residents for working so hard to get us through a very challenging time. We’ve been through a lot this year, and it’s been hard on all of us in different ways.

Despite the challenges, I want to share some thoughts on why I am grateful and hopeful as I look forward to my own holiday break (after my days on call!).

Last month in this blog I was looking forward to seeing people in person at Family Medicine Forum. It was fantastic to see so many colleagues, residents, and medical students in person, enjoying some excellent CME and discussing important issues like the Outcomes of Training Project.

This month’s DFM Monitor includes some great photos from the 10-year anniversary of our Queen’s Bowmanville-Oshawa-Lakeridge (QBOL) site. It was a real pleasure to see such a great turnout of residents, alumni, preceptors, site leadership, QHS leadership, and even Oshawa’s mayor, at a celebration event on September 22.
