We welcome medical students for two- or four-week rotations at our local public health units. We have many faculty members across the region who would be willing to host a student for an engaging elective experience.
Students must be in the clerkship phase from other accredited medical schools (LCME/CACMS) in Canada and the United States.
To apply for an elective, interested visiting applicants must apply through the AFMC Portal.
Elective activities can include clinical activities (such as HIV PrEP, HIV, tuberculosis, and STI quick-test clinics); shadowing inspections or outreach; tick dragging; and public health projects. In addition to academic half day teaching, PHPM residents will also do informal teaching on topics of interest, as possible. Other academic sessions, including Bootcamp and Retreat, are also open to medical students, should they happen to align with your elective weeks. If you have specific public health interests, we will do our best to make sure your goals for the rotation are met.
