2027-2028 Enhanced Skills Application Timeline:
- Category 1 and 2 Programs - Online Application Opens: July 28, 2026 at 12:00 (noon) ET
- Submission of Applicant Assessment Forms Deadline: September 8, 2026 at 21:00 ET
- Online Application For Category 1 (and all required documents) Deadline: September 8, 2026 at 12:00 (noon) ET
- Online Application For Category 2 (including all required documents) Deadline: September 30, 2026 at 12:00 (noon) ET
- Category 1 Programs - Interview status will be updated through CaRMS Online: October 1, 2026
- Interview Period for all programs: October 9 - November 27, 2026 * Note: All interviews will be conducted virtually.
- Category 1 Match Day and Category 2 Offer Letters: December 10, 2026 at 12:00 (noon) ET

⚠️You can only match to a single Category 1 program through CaRMS. Should you match to a Category 1 program through CaRMS, this is a binding contract and you will need to relinquish or decline any subsequent Category 2 offers you receive. Should you receive and accept a Category 2 offer PRIOR to the CaRMS rank order list deadline, you will need to withdraw from the CaRMS match. Between the rank order list deadline and match day, you cannot accept any Category 2 offers. Any circumvention of this policy will result in a match violation and may result in disciplinary actions.
Category 1 programs (Family Practice Anesthesia, Care of the Elderly, Emergency Medicine, and Palliative Care) will now be using CaRMS for the match process.

Category 2 Programs (Rural Skills, Women's Health, Indigenous Health, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Falkland Islands Scholarship)
Applicant's are required to complete and upload the following documents to the online Category 2 Enhanced Skills Program Application Form
- Letter of intent (one to two pages in length) that addresses objectives and motivations for pursuing additional training;
- Current curriculum vitae;
- Three (3) letters of reference, one of which must be from the applicant's Program or Site Director. For Rural Skills, the reference from the Program or Site Director must be the Rural Skills Program Director Referee Assessment Form.
- Reference Letters and the Rural Skills Program Director Referee Assessment Form must be emailed directly to jennifer.duffy@queensu.ca.
Rural Skills Program
Applicants are required to upload the following documents to the online application:
- Letter of Intent (one to two pages in length) that addresses objectives and motivations for pursuing additional training;
- Current curriculum vitae;
- Two (2) letters of reference and one (1) Rural Skills Program Director Referee Assessment Form completed by your Program/Site Director. Reference letters and the referee assessment form must be emailed to the Department of Family Medicine.
