Welcome to my first blog after a break over the summer.
I’d like to shout out to resident Drs. Wilson Lam and Jeff Graham, both nominated for the Dr. Sanjay Sharma Award, which recognizes exceptional clinical care, and offer my congratulations to Dr. Lam for winning this award. It speaks volumes to the quality of the residents in our program and the great work our preceptors do in helping them grow into exceptional family doctors!
I hope everyone was able to take advantage of the summer weather and lull in COVID activity to recharge and refresh before the fall. Camp Oh-No-Go replaced our usual Camp Oconto experience, and our sites and residents came up with all sorts of creative ways to safely get together – from goat yoga to enjoying a hike. It was great to see the photos of our residents (check out @queensdfm on Instagram) finally having an opportunity to get together this way after so many months of Zoom!
With cases rising again, it may be a while before we have another opportunity like this. As we have passed the six-month mark of the COVID pandemic in Ontario, it is clear we are going to be in this for many months to come.
Our virtual town hall on October 2 will include opportunities to address questions and concerns about COVID and, importantly, to think about how we can support wellness in all our faculty, staff, and residents across all our sites.
Our new dean, Dr. Jane Philpott, will also join us to share her vision for the future, giving us a chance to think beyond COVID about how our own long-term strategic plan aligns with this.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the town hall.
Finally, THANK YOU to everyone for your ongoing contributions in this challenging time. WE are family medicine because of you and all you do.
Dr. Michael Green
