Dr. Kieran Moore to Lead $4M Lyme Disease Network

Dr. Kieran Moore and his research team have been awarded $4M to battle Lyme disease across Canada.  

Funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Pan-Canadian Research Network on Lyme Disease will bring together scientists, clinicians, and patients to advance the science of Lyme disease prevention and control, diagnosis, and treatment.

Dr. Michael Green Leads $2M Study of Primary Health Care in Ontario

Dr. Michael Green is Nominated Principal Investigator for a $2 million grant that will enable him to continue to study the state of primary health-care services in Ontario.  

The INSPIRE-PHC-2 (Innovations Strengthening Primary Healthcare through Research-Phase 2) research program has been awarded through the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Health System Research Fund (HSRF).  

The project is a continuation of an earlier three-year HSRF program award that was led by Western University.  

Dr. David Barber Elected to OMA Executive

Dr. David Barber has been elected as the Ontario Medical Association’s (OMA) representative for District 7 of the Section on General and Family Practice (SGFP). The SGFP represents more than 13,000 practising general physicians and family doctors in the province, and is the OMA’s largest clinical section, comprising almost one-half of the total membership. Dr. Susan Phillips Appointed Director, Centre for Studies in Primary Care

Dr. Susan Phillips, Professor, has been appointed director of the department’s Centre for Studies in Primary Care (CSPC) effective November 1, 2017 to June 30, 2020. 

Dr. Phillips, who joined the department as a faculty member in 1994, will be responsible for shaping the vision and direction of the CSPC. She will oversee the centre’s day-to-day administration, and will report on its activities and finances to the department head and the dean of the Queen’s Faculty of Health Sciences. 

Team Visiting Falkland Islands Renews Program Relationships

Dr. Michael Green, Dr. Geoff Hodgetts, Dr. Brent Wolfrom and Allen McAvoy, Strategic Relations Manager, visited the Falkland Islands in February 2018. Recognizing faculty changes since the 2015 launch of the department’s Falkland Islands-Queen’s Family Medicine rotation, the visit provided an opportunity to oversee the transition of program management. During the visit, the team met with government and hospital staff to discuss the program, renew links, and consider potential expansions between Queen’s and the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the Falklands Islands.
