Dr. Erin Beattie has earned this year’s PARO Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award for Queen’s University. This award acknowledges the essential role good clinical teachers play in training new physicians. Among a wide variety of other criteria, selection is based on interest in trainees’ personal development and well-being, quality of clinical and bedside teaching, and teaching at a high academic level. The department's Public Health and Preventive Medicine (PHPM) program (Dr. Kieran Moore, program director) has been nominated for the 2021 PARO Residency Program Excellence Award. This award recognizes programs that consistently provide an exceptionally positive and rewarding experience to their residents, while producing physicians who are expertly trained to deal with the challenges in their upcoming careers. Dr. Brent Wolfrom, the department’s postgraduate education program director, has received a 2021 CAME (Canadian Association of Medical Education) Certificate of Merit Award. Nominated by CAME members, this award is intended to promote, recognize, and reward faculty committed to medical education in Canadian medical schools. (January 2021)
Dr. Christine Hanna (KTI graduate 2019; PGY3 EM graduate 2020) has received the 2020 Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians’ CCFP-EM Resident Leadership Award. (November 2020)
Dr. Erin Beattie has received the WF Connell Award for Excellence in Mentorship from the Queen’s Undergraduate Medical Education Class of 2020. Each year, the graduating class selects a professor who provided students with excellent mentorship and role modelling through a combination of non-academic and academic endeavours. Award recipients are recognized for their contribution to student life and learning through their advice and outreach in the interest of students. (May 2020)
Dr. Fil Gilic, course director, Nightmares FM, MEDS 115, and Airway Mastery (CCFP-EM) has received the 2020 Queen's Faculty of Health Sciences Education Award, the faculty's highest award, based on four criteria: excellence in teaching, a new or innovative approach to teaching, reflection on teaching, and evidence of impact on student learning.
