KGH is the only hospital in Kingston that receives patients via ambulance. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Please remember the emergency department is for patients who are seriously ill, experiencing a medical emergency or major trauma. If you are not experiencing an emergency, please visit a walk-in-clinic or the Urgent Care Centre at Hotel Dieu Hospital, or utilize alternative health-care services such as Telehealth Ontario (1-866-797-0000).

  • Ontario health card (OHIP)
  • IFHP form (if applicable)
  • Any other applicable health insurance cards/forms
  • Any medications you are currently taking and an up-to-date list of these if possible

Hotel Dieu does not have a 24-hour emergency department; however there is a 12-hour Urgent Care Centre (UCC) open from 8am-8pm 365 days a year.

The Urgent Care Centre serves all patients whose illness or injury is not life-threatening but cannot wait for a visit to their family doctor.

The entrance for the UCC is located east (walking towards traffic flow) of the hospital’s main entrance on Brock St. There is a driveway to drop patients at the door.

The emergency department aims to provide prompt and efficient emergency treatment.

Quinte Health Care | Belleville General Hospital has an emergency department that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are 206 beds for primary and secondary care and a range of clinics and other hospitals services.

The emergency department provides efficient and necessary treatment, but is only to be used for patients who are seriously ill.

If visiting the emergency department, please remember to bring:

Quinte Health Care | Trenton Memorial Hospital located in Trenton also has 24/7 emergency services available to patients who require them. It is a smaller scale hospital with 31 beds that provides both primary and secondary care to its patients.

Walk-in clinics for Kingston and surrounding areas:

  • You don’t need an appointment to go to a walk-in medical clinic. Some clinics are open in the evening and on weekends.
  • You need to take your health (OHIP) card with you. You may not be able to see the same doctor every time you go to a clinic.
  • You may also have to wait to see a doctor or nurse, if there are a lot of other patients ahead of you.
