Department Head's Message

Welcome! We invite you to explore our website to discover the many ways our outstanding educational, research and clinical programs are advancing the future of primary care.

Our postgraduate training program is the first to be recognized twice with the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario Award of Excellence as the top training program of any specialty in Ontario. Our program provides exceptional clinical experiences from Moose Factory to the Falkland Islands, and from Dryden to Cornwall, to ensure we deliver on our motto of “Train at Queen’s. Work Anywhere.”

With four distinct teaching sites, a conjoint program in Public Health and Preventive Medicine and a large Enhanced Skills program, we have options that appeal to a broad range of interests and regularly attract a diverse group of residents from every area of the country as well as internationally.

In research, three endowed chairs and the Centre for Studies in Primary Care support faculty and our residents in their pursuit of new knowledge. Two of the College of Family Physicians of Canada’s seven “Wonders of Family Medicine Research” originated here, including the Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network, Canada’s largest electronic medical records-based primary care research database.

We support innovative care delivery through our multidisciplinary Queen’s Family Health Team (QFHT), which the Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario has recognized with five “Shining Star” awards.

Our team of caring and dedicated faculty, staff and residents is the foundation that makes this all possible. Working together, we support the mission of our Faculty of Health Sciences to “Ask Questions, Seek Answers, Advance Care and Inspire Change.

Thanks for visiting our site, and please do be in touch if you want to learn more.
